Series 3 design IT for houses New Zealand
A software tool for all building practitioners
Software for the design of hySPAN or hyJOIST and other selected materials for houses and similar structures. Quick and simple to use yet deceptively powerful software, designIT® is useful for the selection of beam sizes without the need for engineering knowledge or the exercise of professional engineering judgement.

Recently we have had a report of designIT installed and apparently working on a MS XP 64 bit operating system, but returning potentially unsafe output.  designIT has not been designed or the output verified for 64 bit operating systems.  Please do not rely on output derived from anything other than 32 bit operating systems.

  • Revised installation details including those for hyJOIST
  • Improved presentation and flexibility in the display and printing of details.
  • Option to automatically print all details relating to a Design Certificate
  • Vista users may need to temporarily deactivate 'User Account Control. For further information click the link above
  • Includes options for design with commonly available stress grades of timber and glue laminated timber.
  • Caters for a range of floor live loads needed for design of decks, balconies and residential apartment buildings (up to 3.0 kPa / 2.7 kN).
  • Includes a floor joist calculator to allow consideration of actual load and support conditions for optimum design, web hole placement and specification of hangers.
  • Bearer calculator (similar to joist calculator) allows consideration of a wide range of load and support conditions including offset and parallel load bearing walls and support of concentrated loads to provide optimum solutions without the need for engineering design.
  • Serviceability report showing the estimated average deflection and the corresponding limit for the critical load case.

Please note that Series 3 of designIT is not available as an update from Version 2 due to the size and number of files to be updated/replaced.

Users who already have designIT Series 3 must validate to the current version by either of the following methods:

1. With designIT open - click on the help tab from the top menu and select 'check for updates' (this will automatically install all current updates).

2. Alternatively download the current version manually as an executable file by clicking the link above and following the prompts.
Note: In this case, designIT must be closed prior to installing the update.
